YOLO

When hashtag Y-O-L-O trended I was caught up in the frenzy and lived my life to the fullest since there was only one to live. The words crept into my subconscious that I didn’t mind anything again and so I hustled to earn a living, make money so I could just enjoy it all. “Nothing else mattered anymore”, not even church services or my fellowship. Why waste time at those quiet and “sane” places when I could spend time partying and hanging out with friends. I had better take all the risk today because I might be gone tomorrow. Besides only God knows those that would make it to heaven!

A couple of us might have had this in our heads and maybe still have it now. Words are powerful and so is our mind, but we have a more powerful weapon which is CHOICE.

And in a bid to live this one life to the fullest, many times we forget the real reason why we were created and we chase after ephemeral things, at times thinking this things add to our self-worth. Forgetting that’s self-worth and net-worth are not the same. Your value is not determined by your valuables. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

In fact the Urban dictionary defined YOLO as “The dumbass’s excuse for something stupid that they did, Also one of the most annoying abbreviations ever”

How can you even say you only live once? When it is written in JOHN 3:16, that if you accept Jesus Christ into your life, you aren’t going to die when you die but live after you die. But it takes a decision to live a submitted life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Hence the dialect of a believer shouldn’t be Y-O-L-O, I’d rather we say Y-O-D-O, You Only Die Once. (Hebrews 9:27). So before you go about with the mind-set that you only live once and leave that life to chance, remember you only die once. And after that death is judgement. But the beauty is there’s room for self-examination before the real judgement. (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Christ has promised all who believe in His name a better life than the one we live now after we leave this earth. That is, if you accept Jesus, when you leave this earth, you don’t die and go to hell. Instead you begin another glorious life with him in paradise. Its time you engage that power of choice today and choose a better life that doesn’t end on this earth. #YODO
