8 SECONDS

Today the world is populated with several kinds of sports from the popular to the not so popular ones, ranging from football to basketball to golf, tennis, swimming etc. All these sports have a time allocated to them to run. They run for minutes, hours, days. But there’s a particular one that runs for only 8 seconds. Continue reading “8 SECONDS”

Best friends forever (BFF)

A boy once wrote a girl a love letter and it read, “You are my sunshine, my inspiration, the reason for my existence. I would climb the highest mountain to be with you, swim the red sea, dead sea and even the Bermuda triangle just to see you smile, I would fight the toughest army to defend you.” And then he concluded by saying, “see you tonight if it doesn’t rain”. Really? If it doesn’t rain? Now this is someone who is willing to swim the dead sea and the rain seems like a barrier. Well, that determines the love he has for her. Conditional love.
. Aristotle stated that no man is an island. Hence the need for relationship and friendships. In the course of relating with people we find some particular people very endearing than the others, these people we call friends and some or one that totally syncs with us, that we call our best friend or friends. Some of these friendships grow from childhood to adulthood and get better like fine wine.
Change they say is inevitable. Only God never changes, that’s why we call Him the unchangeable changer. But every other person or thing is subject to change. At times our feelings towards something or someone changes, our best friend suddenly changes and stabs us in the back. Someone you expected much from ends up disappointing you and you feel terrible about it. But in all this, there’s a friend that sticks with you all the way. Proverbs 18:24 calls Him the friend that sticks closer than a brother. He isn’t just a friend but a BFF cause His friendship never expires here on earth. He sticks with you through thick and thin and even in eternity.
Two hymns explain it all. One by Joseph M. Scriven

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield thee
thou wilt find a solace there.

And the other by Johnson Oatman Jr.

There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus
No, not one! No, not one!
None else could heal all our souls diseases
No, not one! No, not one!

Refrain:
Jesus knows all about our struggles
He will guide till the day is done
There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus
No, not one! No, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy
No, not one! No, not one!
And yet no friend is so meek and lowly
No, not one! No, not one!

There’s not an hour that He is not near us
No, not one! No, not one!
No night so dark but His love can cheer us
No, not one! No, not one!

No friend like Jesus, no not one. Having friends isn’t bad but we have to understand that even the best of friends may let you down or even disappoint you in your hour of need. They could be unavailable when you need them the most, they could lack the right words to say when you hurt, not because they want to be mean or let you down but because human beings have limitations. However, Jesus is the only friend that would never fail, disappoint or give up on you. He will never get tired of you. He has the wisdom and ability to see you through the most difficult situations.
Do you have a relationship with Jesus? He longs to have one with you today.

In case you’ve never had a relationship with Jesus, all you have to do is invite Him now by saying this prayer aloud from your heart:

Dear father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I ask Jesus to come into my heart to be Lord of my life. I receive eternal life into my spirit. I declare that I am now saved; I am born again; I am a child of God!
