TAG TEAM

Tag team wrestling is a type of professional wrestling in which matches are contested between teams of multiple wrestlers. In most team matches, only one competitor per team is allowed in the ring at a time.

This status as the active or legal wrestler may be transferred by physical contact, most commonly a palm-to-palm “tag” which resembles a high five.

The term “tag team” has since become used in common parlance to describe two or more people who alternate or cooperate in participation in an activity, and “tag-teaming” to describe the act of alternating with an ally.

Well a lot of folks might be wondering where am driving at with my wrestling documentary. Ok, this is it!

Was studying the Bible sometimes back and stumbled upon a scripture, Isaiah 5:25b; for all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still. And immediately I realised that was in fact where the “tag team” originated from. The verse says His arms are outstretched.

Now, the Bible makes us understand that God cannot behold iniquity (Habakkuk 1:13). In fact He turned away His face from Jesus the moment Christ carried the sin of the whole world. When we engage in sin, God isn’t happy and so there’s a distance between us and God. (Isaiah 59:1-2)

God isn’t happy when you live in sin. In fact He wants you out of it, little wonder even though He has turned His face away from you, His arms are still “outstretched”.

You can look at it this way, God’s turning His back towards you and has His hand stretched to His back and He’s saying; “Hey child, I can’t look at you in this state but nevertheless my arms are outstretched, if only I could feel your palm on mine, if only you could give me a high five no matter how low, what am going to do is pull you out of that pit, out of that quicksand to my precious side.”

Same happens in tag team wrestling, when the other partner in the ring is battered that he can’t cope again, the other one outside full of energy keeps beckoning and stretching forth his arm, just touch me and help is on its way full force.

Maybe you have been caught up in the web of sin, drowned in the pit of pornography or fornication or caught in the trap of lying over and over again, whatever it might be, and all you are doing is wishing you could stop these things. It doesn’t work like that, friend, God isn’t a genie!

Well maybe your case isn’t sin, probably you have decided to face life on your own, forgetting you are in a team with Jesus (joint heirs with Christ), and so in the process you have been drained emotionally, physically, mentally, financially and whatever area.

Same way that beaten and battered wrestler makes conscious efforts to his ally, you also have to call on Jesus. You have to let Him know you need His help. When you call Him, He’s bound to answer. (Jeremiah 33:3). Remember, His arms are outstretched and neither are they short.

You are just a tap away from sin!

As the case with all your write ups, this one too is a very good piece. It’s really nice how you relate everyday activities with the word. It opens up the mind to new and rich insight. thanks

  2. Thanks for this post. Out of ignorance and confused state of mind, some people do tap the palm of the opponent, “enemy” , thus receiving more beatings. May we have the courage, boldness, strength, understanding etc. to tap the outstretched hand of our Saviour, the head of the Tag Team.
Looking at it from the other angle, even if a team mate is having the upper hand, he still stretches out his hand to his other team mate, in our case Jesus, for a support because he knows that his strength will not be able to see him through the contest. So, even when things seem going on well with us, we still need to tap His (Jesus) palm because our strength can never see us through the issues of life. Psalm 18:32-34, Rom. 8:37

  3. Boss Bito, I’m convinced all are deposited with unique abilities. As you said, “Isaiah was a poet and writer,” and the mantle has been transferred to you…
God daily nourish you with His Truth. Amen.
Thanks for keeping it simple, and getting the message passed.
